Meet the Artist

Hi, I’m Kaylene, an Australian Artist currently living on the beautiful Gold Coast, with my handsome partner (he told me to say that) and our Border Collie, Jed.

As a child, I was always drawing. School holidays were spent copying characters from comics into little exercise books, for hours on end.

After an eighteen (18) year career in the police force, and raising two boys, I finally have time to sit down and draw again. I’m self taught - or should I say ‘Youtube taught’ - only recently discovering how to use coloured pencils to their full potential. I love building the layers, and watching the piece come together. Although, during every piece I have the thought that it isn’t going to work, and I’m actually surprised when it all comes together at the end.

I also love working with pen…enjoying the stark contrast of the black and white, and the clean, sharp lines.

I find inspiration from nature and the world around me. I love bright, bold colours, which is one of the reasons I’m drawn to food packaging, but I love how mother nature’s creations are so perfect.
